John 3:16 ……….. For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son,that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.
As I travel more and more extensively on missions, I am dismayed to discover that many people who attend church are not Christians.
They have been going to church for a long time and some are even in positions of authority and leadership yet, when asked when they became a Christian they cannot tell you because they have never had a personal Calvary encounter with Jesus Christ.
Mistakenly, people have assumed of themselves and others that going to church for years and leading a mostly good life has qualified them as Christians.
Going to church does not make you a Christian. Going to Calvary, meeting Jesus the Son of God, repenting of our sins and asking Him to be our Lord and Saviour will take you over the thresh-hold from hell to heaven. (John 1: 29 …… The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!”)
However, awesome as that is, it is not all there is. The next step that we need to take is to be baptised in the Holy Spirit. (John 1: 33b …….. “The man on whom you see the Spirit come down and remain is he who will baptise with the Holy Spirit.”)
This will give us the enabling strength, the anointing of God, to follow Jesus every day of our lives.
We will grow progressively deeper and more intimate in our relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ and we will lead others to know Him too as His power-filled witnesses.
We will do what we have been saved to do, we will make disciples of Jesus wherever we go for the glory of God.
Lord Jesus, I love you. Amen.
