Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers. 3 John 2
One of apostle John’s constant prayers for his Christian friend was for him to be in health. God has always revealed Himself to be a God who heals; He is never the source of sickness. “I am the LORD who heals you” (Ex. 15:26). The Bible is full of promises to tell us how much God wants to heal us. The purpose of Jesus’ ministry in this world was to bring healing to the people. “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him” (Acts 10:38). In this verse, we read that God anointed the Son with the Holy Spirit to bring healing to all. In other words, all three Persons of the Trinity are involved in the healing ministry. God has provided three means for divine healing:
- Healing comes through God’s Word. “He sent His word and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions” (Ps. 107:20).
- Healing comes through the power of the Holy Spirit. “But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you” (Rom. 8:11).
- Healing comes through our faith. “And His name, through faith in His name, has made this man strong, whom you see and know. Yes, the faith which comes through Him has given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all” (Acts 3:16).
As believers, not only can we confidently pray for divine healing for our own physical bodies, we can also bring divine healing to those who are sick and diseased. “And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons … they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover” (Mark 16:17-18). Jesus had given His disciples power to heal all kinds of sickness and disease (Matt. 10:1). In fact, Jesus said that, “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father” (John 14:12).
The ministry of Jesus is the pattern for all Christian ministries. After Jesus ascended to the Father, He sent the Holy Spirit to bring divine healing through believing disciples. When you come across a sick person, you never need to feel helpless. Take a step of faith and pray for that person. Let us believe God and bring His divine healing into our world.
