Luke 21:1-4 …….. As he looked up, Jesus saw the rich putting their gifts into the temple treasury. He also saw a poor widow put in two very small copper coins."I tell you the truth," he said, "this poor widow has put in more than all the others. All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on."
Jesus was watching the offertory, more importantly, He was watching what offerings the people were bringing. He saw that the poor widow gave sacrificially as she gave all she had and He observed that those who had wealth gave a portion that, for them, was not a sacrifice. Jesus saw that the widow’s giving was greater, not because of the quantity but because of the cost.
When our Father in heaven sent Jesus to earth, it cost Him everything, Jesus on the Cross held nothing back, He gave us all He had. What about us? Are we giving as much as we can to Jesus or are we holding back?
Everything we have comes from God, it is His blessing upon us. We cannot hold back from Him or else we rob Him. As we give back to God what He has given us He multiplies back to us all that we give. He will not be out-given because God is no man’s debtor.
However, as God increases the blessings back into our lives, He wants our giving to increase also. The more we give, the more God will give us back so that, in turn, we can give more. Glory to God.
Is God challenging you to give what you have? God knows our circumstances and He knows what we have. God loves a cheerful giver. Are we rejoicing as we empty our pockets into God’s offertory? Are we singing as God’s multiplied blessings rain down upon us?
Lord Jesus, help us to count our blessings and not our money. Amen
