Farrah Fawcett—Death of an Angel

One day, sicknesses such as cancer will be eradicated and will not ever claim the life of anyone. What a wonderful time to look forward to!

My wife and I have two beautiful brown-hair, brown-eyed daughters. When they were young children, they and one of their blonde girl friends would pretend to be Sabrina, Kelly and Jill—Charley's Angels. The show—immensely popular in the 70's—featured Farrah Fawcett as the blond for a few seasons before she opted out of her contract. My daughters had me buy myself a T-shirt with a picture of the original three "angels" on the front.

With all the attention given to Michael Jackson, the death of Farrah Fawcett was only a blip on the radar screen by comparison. Yet this beautiful, talented woman battled cancer for the last three years of her life before succumbing to the disease at the age of 62. How sad that another human being has been consumed by cancer! I have had friends who have battled cancer and are currently in remission—but always face the possibility of its return. I have also had friends who have lost their fight with cancer. Researchers have been trying to create drugs to stop this dread affliction, but so far none exist that can eliminate this disease.

People of all ages and ranks in life have been afflicted, exhausted and consumed by the effects of cancer. It is one of the world's worst killers. One in eight deaths worldwide is attributed to cancer.

But I have good news for all of us. There is a cure coming, and it is sure and certain. This cure will be ushered in by the coming Kingdom of God. Jesus Christ healed every disease and every sickness among the people He encountered when He walked this earth (Matthew 9:35). There is nothing too difficult for God to do—including conquering cancer (Genesis 18:14).

The Scriptures reveal a time when sickness will no longer ruin the quality of any life. Speaking of the life in the Kingdom of God, the prophet Isaiah wrote, "The inhabitant will not say 'I am sick'; the people who dwell in it will be forgiven their iniquity" (Isaiah 33:24).

One day, sicknesses such as cancer will be eradicated and will not ever claim the life of anyone—even one of Charlies angel's. What a wonderful time to look forward to!
