Honesty

(Jesus speaking) “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” John 14:6

Honesty is the Best Policy. There is a machine which can tell whether you are telling the truth; it is called a lie detector. Do you ever wonder why people try to lie when taking a lie-detector test? They think they can beat it. And maybe they can. But no one can beat lying to God. He knows everything. He knows us inside and out—even better than we know ourselves. Proverbs 15:11 says, “Even Death and Destruction hold no secrets from the LORD. How much more does He know the human heart!”

With this in mind, it makes sense to be perfectly honest with God. What’s the point of trying to deceive someone who sees right through you? It’s like the old adage, “When you cheat, you’re only cheating yourself.” In the same way, when you lie to God, you’re just lying to yourself. You see, being honest with God actually helps you to confront the real issues in your life. Honesty is like uncovering a wound so it can get the oxygen it needs to heal. When you expose the truth of your emotions and situation to God, He comes and breathes life on you and helps you prosper.

The point is: God values honesty. He already knows everything, so He’d prefer if you just level with Him and tell Him what you really feel. Proverbs 22:11 says, “Whoever loves a pure heart and gracious speech will have the King as a friend.” Don’t be afraid that you are going to offend Him or He won’t want to hear what you are saying. Wouldn’t you rather have a friend that was perfectly honest than one who just told you what you wanted to hear?

What are you feeling today? Maybe you don’t even know your own heart in certain matters. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal it to you. Psalm 139:23,24 says, “Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.” God is not afraid of your true thoughts. He wants to hear them so He can talk to you about them. How can He help you if you aren’t first honest with Him?

So, this week, let us pray and ask God to
  • Help us to tell the truth always
  • Pour out His Holy Spirit on our friends and loved ones
  • Give the leaders in each of our countries wisdom in governing the nation
God loves you and offers a wonderful plan for you life. May God bless you.
